 Open Dental is a dental practice management software formerly know as Free Dental licensed under the GNU General Public License. The software is written with C# programming language using .NET framework.

This software has all the features a user would need in managing dental practice. The main interface is a desktop program with different web portals.

The Discount Plan feature is useful for practices that offer in-house discount plans for patients that do not have insurance.

Electronics Prescription

Electronic Prescription is an internet-based, secure method of sending electronic prescriptions in Open Dental accessed from the Chart Module.

There are two options for sending electronic prescriptions.

Graphical Tooth chart

This graphical Tooth chart visually shows the patient's teeth, as well as treatment that has been performed, is planned, or has been referred out.
